Repeat drink-driver jailed
A former greenkeeper who was caught drink-driving twice in a month has been jailed for eight months.
Peter Norrie already had two convictions for the same offence when he was caught in May and June this year.
Norrie was also banned from driving for seven years after he admitted the most recent incident.
He appeared at Perth Sheriff Court, where he pled guilty to driving while he was nearly three times the limit in Alyth, on May 19.
He also admitted driving with a similar level of alcohol in and around the town on June 28.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told Norrie: “You have two previous convictions for driving whilst over the limit, in 2003 and in 2014. You now appear in connection with two instances of drink-driving within a month of each other.
“On both occasions you were significantly over the limit.
“In my view you clearly constitute a hazard to other road users.
“Having regard to your previous convictions, custody has to be imposed,” the sheriff said.
Norrie, 38, of Loyal Road, Alyth, was caught driving in the town centre at 5pm and then on the main routes around the town in the middle of the morning.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told the court police pulled him over and noticed he smelled strongly of alcohol and had glazed eyes.
