Scholarship for tourism student
A student from Pitlochry has won a scholarship that will allow her to develop her work focusing on ethics in the tourism industry.
Lauren Morrison, 20, has been named one of the 2018 Moffat Scholars, an annual award for students on tourismrelated courses at Glasgow Caledonian University.
The former Pitlochry High pupil is in her fourth year studying international business and tourism management at the university.
The awards are handed out to students on the basis of their academic abilities, motivation to undertake a career in the tourism industry and economic need.
Up to £3,600 will be paid in three instalments over the academic year.
Lauren said: “I am extremely proud to be a Moffat scholar.
“I’m interested in the ethical implications of the tourism industry and plan to use my scholarship to focus solely on my studies.
“It will enable me to pursue many opportunities within the industry and make connections with professionals from across the sector.”
The scholarships were established in 1998 through funding from the Moffat Charitable Trust, which was set up by the late James Moffat and his wife Dr Margie Moffat OBE, who also founded the AT Mays travel agent chain.
The award was presented by Tom Campbell, managing director of North Coast 500, who delivered the keynote address at this year’s Moffat Lecture Awards.
Also in attendance was Dr Jamie Moffat, the son of the founders.
