Body found in search for Crieff man.
Tributes flow for Crieff resident after locals help in extensive search
Police Scotland have confirmed the body of a man has been found during the search for missing person Martyn Cruickshank from Crieff.
The 42-year-old was reported missing last week and extensive searches had been ongoing in the Crieff, Comrie and other rural areas.
His family has been informed and formal identification is yet to take place.
Inspector Ged Fitzpatrick said: “Our thoughts are with Martyn’s family at what will be an extremely sad and difficult time.
“At this point I would like to thank the members of the public who have assisted with our searches and to all those who have shared our appeals for information.
“Missing person inquiries can be complex and the support we get from the public is always appreciated.”
The body was discovered in the Crieff area.
Mr Cruickshank’s mother, Margaret, told The Courier last week her son left his Turretbank Drive home at 8am on Tuesday and the only sighting of him was on CCTV nearby shortly afterwards.
Police had spent the week carrying out door-to-door inquiries, while dedicated officers, specialist search units, mountain rescue, search dogs and air support were all used in the major operation in the area.
Local people had also joined the widespread search effort for Mr Cruickshank.
News of the tragic discovery caused an outpouring of grief on social media, with many people expressing sympathy towards Mr Cruickshank’s wife and family.
