Strathie bag 23 tries as leaders run up cricket score against shocked Alloa

-

Strathmore swept maintained their perfect record in Tennent’s Caledonia Division One with a resounding 125-0 win over Alloa.

It took Strathie only 15 minutes to secure four tries and by half-time they had dotted down no fewer than nine times, adding 10 more in the second period to breach the century.

Strathie’s nearest challengers Dunfermline took only four points from a 19-5 victory at home to Hillfoots, despite a red card for Danny Morrison before half-time.

It was a big day for the McKane Park outfit. Against the current trend of clubs struggling for numbers, Dunfie fielded four sides for the first time since the 1980s.

Glenrothes leapfrogged Grangemouth Stags into third spot after seeing off the Glensburgh side 57-35 in a try fest at Carleton Park.

Sean Gray had two tries for the Fifers and there was one each for Cammy Goodall, Steven Dean, Michael Delorey Rhys Bryce, Callum Kennedy and Timmy Kennedy.

The day’s other fixture ended in a seventh successive defeat for Harris, but the Elliot Road men did manage to secure their first league point of the season after scoring four tries in the 44-30 loss at home to Ellon.

A first half try by Adam Wood was converted by Graham Hopkins, who also kicked a penalty as Harris reached the break only 20-10 in arrears.

Wood touched down for a second time and there were further tries from Ryan Gallacher and Jack Robertson to bag the bonus, while Hopkins landed a conversion and a penalty as Harris led with 15 minutes to play, only for Ellon to finish strongly and claim the win.

Division Two Midlands leaders Blairgowrie had an unscheduled day off after Howe of Fife seconds were unable to field a team, and that allowed Carnoustie to cut the gap at the top to a single point, albeit having played two more games, after the Angus men saw off Stirling County thirds 38-24.

Panmure moved into third, replacing Dundee University Medics, whom they beat 21-10.

Madras saw off Falkirk seconds 45-11, while Kinross and Kirkcaldy seconds shared the spoils with a 17-17 draw.

Division Three pacesetters Arbroath suffered a 65-7 loss at home to Waid that means they are two points clear of Rosyth but have played two more matches.

Dundee Morgan are a further point in arrears after bouncing back from a 15-7 half-time deficit to beat Crieff & Strathearn 43-20. Grangemouth Stags seconds were 42-12 winners over the Angus Development side.
