Early Thomson strike clinches derby for Hibs

SUPER LEAGUE: Robertson ensures share of spoils for Port away to Carnoustie

Thornton Hibs took the bragging rights from their derby with Glenrothes at Memorial Park on Saturday.

The only goal came on 16 minutes from leading scorer Garry Thomson as Craig Gilbert’s side closed the gap to Broughty Athletic to three points.

Carnoustie and Tayport had to settle for a share of the points at Laing Park – but both sides had valid claims for taking all three.

Carnoustie were denied a penalty as the first half came to a close. Steven McPhee was felled in the box but the referee waved away the appeals and the sides went in level.

Carnoustie started the second half the better and Gavin Sorley did well to turn away a swerving Jamie Winter effort.

The home side did take the lead on 47 minutes when Ryan Dignan reacted quickest after a McPhee effort was turned on to a post by Sorley.

The equaliser came on 72 minutes when a Jamie Gill free-kick was headed home by Dayle Robertson.

Tayport had the chance to win it in the dying moments when Gill met a Jamie Mackie header only to see his volley go high over the bar.

Kennoway Star Hearts recorded their second league win of the season and their first on the road as they won 1-0 at fellow strugglers Fauldhouse United.

A Kieran Band strike was the only goal of the game and means the Fife side have closed the gap at the bottom to a point.

It was a good afternoon for most of the clubs at the bottom end of the Super League, including Kirrie Thistle.

Chris Kettles’ side recorded a 1-0 win over 10-man Broughty Athletic at Westview Park with John Farquharso­n netting the late winner.

Mc Bookie. com East Premier League North Arbroath Vics were on the end of a hiding at home to Scone Thistle.

Michael Fotheringh­am put Arbroath in front after just four minutes but the visitors levelled 60 seconds later through Steven Moon and went in front on the quarter-hour mark through Darren Gray. A third came three minutes later through Aaron Carlon.

Cammy Mooney pulled a goal back for the home side but that just spurred the visitors on to another level as Carlon made it four before Max Avolio scored twice in a minute . Carlon completed his hat-trick on 83 minutes before Avolio did the same in stoppageti­me.

Violet took all three points from their game against Blairgowri­e at home.

Sean Tucker scored in the first half for the Pansies and Gavin Thomson scored a second after half-time. Matty Adam got the Blairgowri­e goal from the penalty spot.

Coupar Angus suffered injuries to two goalkeeper­s as they slumped 9-0 at Tulloch Park against Kinnoull.

Pat Brown got Kinnoull up and running on eight minutes and an own goal doubled the advant age two minutes later. Tom Whyte made it 3-0 on 14 minutes before Mark Smith made it four with just 22 minutes gone.

Whyte got his second on 24 minutes before Smith got his own second right on half-time as Kinnoull went in leading 6-0.

Liam Wooley made it seven before Smith completed his hat-trick before making it 9-0 with three minutes left.

Leaders Luncarty slipped up at home to East Craigie drawing 1-1, a result that saw North End return to the top of the league.

Richard Doig scored the Luncarty goal, while Andrew McDonald scored for the visitors.
