Miller calls for bravery as leaders visit Dens

DUNDEE: Striker urges team-mates to have ‘a long, hard look in the mirror’ before Hearts clash

Kenny Miller has called on the Dundee players to have a “long, hard look in the mirror” before tomorrow night’s clash with Hearts.

After getting thrashed 4-0 by Livingston, the Dark Blues have the daunting task of bouncing back against the Premiership leaders.

But Miller believes a top v bottom fixture is a chance to redeem themselves after putting in a performance he felt was worthy of an apology to the hundreds of fans who travelled to West Lothian for Jim McIntyre’s first game in charge.

He said: “Hearts have played some good stuff this season. They’re top of the league. The game will be a real test for us.

“But it’s in front of our own fans and it’s an opportunity. All of a sudden, for how horrendous the start has been, the league table will look more positive for us.

“We need bravery and courage on Tuesday night.

“You have to have a long, hard look in the mirror. There is no time to feel sorry for yourself.”

It will come as no great surprise that changes are likely to be made by McIntyre.

“I’m still learning the nature of my squad,” he said. “There will be opportunities for others – especially after results like today.”

Meanwhile, McIntyre hasn’t written off Billy Dodds being appointed his assistant manager.

“There are a couple of candidates,” he said. “It has been well-documented that I would like to bring Billy in but that is proving difficult. It is a sensitive subject. We’ll wait and see and I have nothing to tell you at the moment.”
