Perth schools scoop top awards
Schools across Perth and Kinross have been recognised for their role in encouraging pupils to take part in physical education.
Seventeen schools were honoured with gold, silver or bronze distinctions by Sportscotland. They were Abernethy Primary, Dunning Primary, Perth Academy, Community School of Auchterarder, Crieff High, Letham Primary, Milnathort Primary, Our Lady’s Primary, Perth High, Portmoak Primary, Madderty Primary, Robert Douglas Memorial Primary, St John’s Academy, St John’s RC Primary, Methven Primary, St Madoes Primary and Tulloch Primary.
Funded by the National Lottery, the School Sport Award is designed to help young people take part in physical education and put children at the centre of lesson planning.
It also encourages schools to foster closer links with local community groups by providing opportunities for children to take up sport.
Conservative MSP Liz Smith said: “This is an excellent initiative aimed at ensuring children continue to be excited about taking part in PE.
“I am delighted to see so many schools in Perth and Kinross win a gold, silver or bronze award.
“Encouraging children to be active is incredibly important, especially if we are to combat growing problems with obesity and diabetes.”
