Dinner celebrates Perth Andy’s Man Club’s first anniversary
A Perth mental health charity celebrated its first year with a gala dinner night to thank locals for their support.
Andy’s Man Club rounded off a hectic October with a belated anniversary party at the St Johnstone Club.
Around 70 people were in attendance as the group celebrated the achievements it had made in the past year.
The club was launched in September 2017 by HMP Perth physical education instructors Alex McClintock and Adam Allison and now boasts 65 members.
The Perth group was the first in Scotland and clubs have now opened in Dundee, Glasgow and Oban.
The celebrations were put on hold as Alex and Adam were making a 20,000ft ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania at the time of the anniversary.
The pair joined members of Andy’s Man Clubs in England, who have raised more than £85,000 towards the excursion and the charity’s funds.
The Perth team are now hoping to continue to help people across the area and open more clubs throughout the country.
Alex said: “With October being mental health awareness month we thought we would have our birthday at the end as a nice way to round it off.
“Also, we had a lot going on with the walk up Mount Kilimanjaro.
“It was a free night for everyone as St Johnstone Club provided the room for free and Peter Chan gave us a free buffet, with other local businesses helping out.”
He said the pair were grateful to everyone who had got behind them over the past year and pledged backing for the future.
“People have supported us from day one. We didn’t think we would be in this position at all,” he said.
Our next task is to source another club and put it all around Scotland.”
