Raith striker finds the goalden touch

Kevin Nisbet is scoring for fun – only months after being dumped by Jags

Kevin Nisbet is showing Partick Thistle what they are missing after becoming a goals sensation for Raith Rovers.

And the way things are going, he could pass his old club on the way back up to the Championship.

Nisbet has slammed 13 Ladbrokes League One goals this season in 11 matches – and that’s three more than Partick have managed in total as they languish third bottom of the Championship.

The 21-year-old striker, who has been named Ladbrokes League One Player of the Month for October, is hoping his hot form will continue against Brechin City today.

He said: “I didn’t get offered a new contract at Thistle at the end of last season which was disappointing as I had spent a lot of time there.

But I knew if I could get regular football then I would score goals and that’s the way things have been going.

“I have just been waiting for this kind of opportunity because I haven’t played a lot in the last two seasons.

“It’s the first time I have played week in, week out and I’m just glad I’m able to show what I can do.

“I think I’m a confidence player. If I’m feeling good and I’m high on confidence, then I feel I can score in every game. So far I have shown that and long may that continue. I just hope I can play my part in getting Raith back up to the Championship.”

Rovers, although beaten last week by Forfar, have stabilised under the returning John McGlynn as they chase Arbroath.

Nisbet added: “It was bit of a shock when we lost Barry Smith and we didn’t know too much about it. We just came in one day and we were told he had left.

“It’s been good since John came in. He’s done brilliantly.

“I have been impressed with the way he conducts training and I think he has turned us into a very good passing team. It was a very disappointing result last week, losing to Forfar, so we want to get back to winning ways against Brechin.

“They’ve just lost their manager so we’re not sure how that will affect them.”

Stevie Campbell meanwhile is looking to end what has been an incredibly difficult and emotional week for the club on a high against Rovers at Stark’s Park this afternoon.

The coach was asked to take over as interim manager after the departure of Darren Dods last week and while he is not sure he wants the job on a permanent basis, he is certain that the players will be ready to face Raith.

Brechin will be without the injured Jordan Sinclair and Dene Shields for the game.
