WINTER IS A BUSY TIME FOR FARMERS – AND THEIR VETS

-

The clocks have gone back and for Eden Veterinary Practice, which specialises in farm care, there’s lots to do.

Ainslie Smith said: “Farmers are still working to house their cattle for the winter, so we are working with them on ensuring they stay fit and healthy.

“There’s also PD testing in cows and Johnes blood testing, both of which we can carry out and then work with farmers on any necessary follow-up advice.”

And it’s not just in the practice and on the farmyard where Ainslie and the team are helping their clients.

On Thursday, November 15, Eden Vets is holding a meeting at the Howe of Fife Rugby Club clubhouse in Cupar. Starting at 7.30pm, the evening will cover suckler fertility and is open to all.

Ainslie said: “This is a very important topic for beef farmers and it’s a free evening that will provide lots of information and advice.

“Ideally anyone who is interested should call or email on the details to allow us to known numbers for refreshments.”

Eden Veterinary Practice’s area covers most of Fife, as Ainslie explained, “between the Forth, the Tay and the M90”.

This contained area of coverage means that vets can respond to emergency calls promptly and efficiently, which is especially important if there are any complications in the cold winter months.

“It’s a great advantage when your vet isn’t covering a large area and can get to the farm quickly.”

Another added advantage is that farmers don’t need to travel far to pick up essential supplies and medicine for their animals.

The veterinary practice has 24/7 emergency care, so they can respond to calls any time of the day or night.
