Shetland author to visit Kinross for Book Week celebratio­ns

Internatio­nal best-selling author Ann Cleeves is among the writers who will be taking part in a literary celebratio­n at local libraries.

Culture Perth and Kinross has announced details of a series of events to mark Book Week Scotland.

The charitable trust is embracing the official theme of “rebel” with visits from Cleeves, best known for her Shetland series, as well as children’s author David MacPhail and crime writer Sara Sheridan.

Head of libraries Morag Kelly said: “We’re delighted to celebrate this national literary festival with a packed programme of talks and workshops, giving everyone in the Perth and Kinross community the opportunit­y to share their love of reading.”

The programme kicks off with “Rebels, Rogues and Retrobates” with Liz Mistry, Tana Collins, Graham Smith and Alex Walters at Perth’s AK Bell Library on Tuesday November 20.

On the same day, Loch Leven Community Campus in Kinross will host visits from David MacPhail and crime writer Quintin Jardine.

Cleeves, whose work has been made into hit TV shows for BBC One and ITV, will be at Loch Leven on November 22.

The line-up also includes a workshop exploring the “crime writers’ toolkit” at Perth Museum and Art Gallery on November 21.

Other writers taking part include Shirley McKay, Gillian Galbraith and Samuel Best.

Victoria Gemmell, who wrote the award-winning novel Follow Me, will visit Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff.

The group was set up as a trust in 2016, taking responsibi­lity for the delivery and developmen­t of archive, library, museum and gallery services in Perth and Kinross.

Book Week Scotland is a national celebratio­n that aims to bring people of all ages and walks of life together in libraries, schools and other venues.
