Body discovered in hunt for missing Forfar man

-

A body believed to be that of missing Forfar man Raivo Ecetajs has been found in the town.

Police Scotland said the body of a male was discovered in Forfar yesterday, almost two weeks after the 43-yearold delivery driver was last seen.

Locals had been urged to check outbuildings, sheds and garages after police expressed concern for the welfare of the Latvian national, who had been described as “one of the nicest guys you would know”.

Angus area commander Chief Inspector David McIntosh said Mr Ecetajs’s disappearance on October 23 was out of character. Through his job as a delivery driver for the town’s Kohe Noor takeaway he was well known in the local area.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “While formal identification has yet to take place, the family of missing person Raivo Ecetajs have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course,” the spokesman added.

A friend, Karina Dmitrijeva, said: “He has no family here in Scotland. They are all in Latvia and waiting for news from the police.”

A neighbour reported seeing forensic officers around his Forfar home in recent days: “The police were searching garden sheds all yesterday morning. I wondered if a body was about to turn up.”
