Raith Lake to be stocked regularly through winter

-

RAITH LAKE is one of the many fisheries which now remains open all year round.

The surrounding hills allow boat anglers access to some fantastic fly fishing during the winter months.

Raith will be running a monthly Raith 100 pairs competition and for the first time ever the management will be permitting a limited number of boats midweek to fly fish for pike.

The lake will continue to be stocked regularly throughout the winter.

Winter opening times are Monday to Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm.

Night fishing has started at KINROSS TROUT FISHERY. The lucky angler who catches the Big Blue Trout on one of the waters in the dark will win £1,000, minus a 10% cut for the designated charities Poppy Scotland and Help For Heroes.

More than 210 fish were caught for the week with the following of note – Craig Myles 11lb 4oz, Keiran Lydon 9lb 8oz and 8lb 8oz, Ian McBurnie 12lb 8oz, David Thorburn 9lb 4oz, Ian Munro 10lb 8oz, Brian Cairns 10lb, Lewis Wilson 14lb, Archie Ferguson two at 10lb, one at 12lb 8oz and one at 12lb 11oz. Apps, diawl bachs, Kate McLaren, damsels and cormorants are the best reported flies this week.

MONIKIE is still open for two weeks and the fish seem to be taking well.

Duncan Inglis even reported fishing dry fly on Monday and successfully landed two on the hopper.

Some of the other noted catches included Darren Smith on Island Pond keeping five fish for 8lb 8oz and returning a further two, Alex Murray and A Strachan on Island Pond with half-day ticket keeping four for 7lb 4oz and Dave Roy on Island Pond returning all eight fish caught. Di 3 lines and small boobies seem to be the preferred method.

The Falcon FFC braved the heavy rain and strong winds at ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY on Saturday and had a good outing, taking 39 fish weighing 109lb.

Jim Russell had the heaviest basket with four for 14lb 8oz on an Ally McCoist. Billy Hume from Cambusbarron took two for 6lb, Robert Purvis, Glenrothes, took three for 10lb on a yellow dancer and Mike Noble, Blairgowrie, had a couple for 5lb, also on a yellow dancer.

The past week has seen plenty of fish being brought to the net at LOCHTER TROUT FISHERY.

Ronnie Ewen set the tone with 15 last Monday and another 15 last Wednesday, virtually all on his skilfully tweaked cormorants.

During the week the fishing was steady with plenty of bags of seven and eight.

Buzzers continued to be effective, Colin McDonald using them to attract 16, Pete Green 16 and Albert Trail 11.

Meanwhile the popular Winter Pairs is being held on Sunday November 18 at 9.30am. Entries costing £20 (including lunch) are still being accepted at the fishery or on 01651 872787.

The first November stocking at the LAKE OF MENTEITH (250 at 2.5lb) was put in on Monday.

They still have another pen of 450 more fish waiting to go in.

It has been a nice mild week so far with the best of the catches in the eastern basin fishing into the reeds. If fisheries, clubs or individuals would like their news included in this weekly column email sales@angusangling.co.uk or contact Neil Anderson on 01307 466366 or 07759 022503.
