Traffic calming measures set to improve children’s safety

-

Speed bumps have been installed outside a Perth school in an effort to protect pupils from speeding drivers.

The measures have been introduced in Auld Bond Road, close to Tulloch Primary School, following concerns raised by local residents.

SNP councillor Dave Doogan said the speed bumps would improve road safety for everyone, but primarily school children.

“Steps have been taken over the last number of years to control parking here, but at the end of day it is a public road and you are relying on people’s better nature to park responsibly and in a way that doesn’t affect residents,” he said.

“I am very pleased that after an awful lot of effort over a number of years, these are in place.

“It has taken longer than I would have liked, but nevertheless I am grateful to officers in the council’s road department for introducing this traffic calming measure.”

The £11 million Tulloch Primary School was opened in June by Deputy First Minister John Swinney. It can accommodate 400 pupils.

It replaced the former Tulloch Primary building, which was built in 1969.

Mr Doogan said: “People in the community have been concerned for some time about the safety of children, and this can only help with this concern.

“Tulloch Primary School is very busy and hopefully this will improve the children’s safety.

“I am mindful of people in the community who think we need a more robust system in place, probably with a road crossing, so I will continue to discuss that with the council.”
