Fi’s faith promises great leaps forward
Fi Munro is a woman of incredible faith. Not in the standard, religious, definition of the word but in terms of her unerring determination that she can beat every challenge put in her path.
Fi’s health difficulties since being diagnosed with ovarian cancer would have defeated most people long before now.
She has gone through numerous operations, including the removal – and partial removal – of organs.
Every time it looked like her fight with cancer had taken a positive turn, another setback happened.
So, shortly after being given just months to live, it is heartwarming to learn the latest treatment through which she has put herself may be the one to succeed.
The immunotherapy remains experimental and it will be some time before we learn if it is a cure, but the early signs are good.
Fi could have settled for more traditional chemotherapy, guaranteeing a few more months of life, but that faith, that gut instinct that she knows what is right for her, saw her choose a different path.
She could not have done so without a massive fundraising campaign but those who donated had faith in Fi.
As well as giving her renewed hope, she may also have blazed a trail for others with a similar condition.
Without such bravery, such faith, leaps forward in healthcare and survival rates cannot happen.
Fi’s faith in herself, and ours in her, is not misplaced.
