Seventh heaven with panto dame Barrie at Perth this Christmas

- EMMA CRICHTON

Scotland’s leading dame will have to carry out some of the quickest costume changes in his career when he takes to the stage for Perth Theatre’s pantomime.

Barrie Hunter has taken on multiple roles for the production of Snow White and Seven Dames, and will play all seven along with Ewan Somers.

He will also make his directing debut in the festive show.

Barrie said: “I’m very excited to be back in Perth again for panto this year. There is going to be loads of fun and frolics, plenty of madness and mayhem, not to mention pure hunners of sweeties and slapstick.

“Once you multiply that seven times over, well, I’ve never been great at maths but I know that’s a lot of sweeties.”

In the production, Snow White is plagued with a bout of acne and hides in her room to avoid her wicked new stepmother.

Deciding it is time for a change, she goes undercover to defeat her stepmother with the help of seven dames.

The pantomime runs from Saturday December 1 until Saturday January 5.

Artistic director of Perth Theatre Lu Kemp said: “Perth’s family panto is the highlight of the year at Perth Theatre, one the whole company loves bringing to the stage.

“Barrie Hunter is much loved locally and this year’s panto celebrates with not one but seven dames.”
