A sporran made by a Perth kilt maker has gained international recognition after being worn by a supermodel.

Gigi Hadid sported a tartan-themed outfit, which included the sporran, at Victoria’s Secret catwalk show, held in New York.

The sporran was made by Margaret Morrison Ltd which is based at the Inveralmond Industrial Estate.

Greg Whyte, owner of Margaret Morrison Ltd, said everyone at the company was excited about the sporran being worn by such a high-profile model.

“We knew this sporran was for Victoria’s Secret but we didn’t know which model it was for,” he said.

“It is nice to see what we are making is being held in such high regard and getting airtime.”

He continued: “We never deal directly with the celebrities but sometimes we are told who we are making stuff for, although other times we don’t know until we see the photos.

“We were contacted by House of Tartan in Crieff who are one of our retail suppliers.

“They had been contacted in a very rushed manner to get a couple of sporrans made for the photo shoot, and being a local sporran maker, they contacted us and explained what was going on.

“It was a very quick turnaround – about 48 hours – but we managed to get that done and as far as we are aware, they were very happy.

“We do get shop owners and grooms with desperate phone calls, so last minute is not unusual for us.”

The catwalk surprise followed the Perth-based company seeing another celebrity wearing one of their sporrans.

Chef Gino D’Acampo wore one in the TV series, Gordon, Gino and Fred: Roadtrip.

Mr Whyte added: “That came from Kinloch Anderson outfits in Edinburgh. They picked them from the display, so it wasn’t necessarily made for him, but it was still exciting to see it on television.

“It is good something being made in Perth is being worn across the world.

“We have been making sporrans for 25 years and they go all over the world, to places like Russia, China, Japan and America.

“We see a lot of our sporrans on TV. We saw Perth and District Pipe Band on television wearing them for the Remembrance Day events, and we have started to supply the Royal Regiment of Scotland after Prince Charles came to visit us in 2016.”
