Council backs Adoption Week Scotland with open evening

-

Perth and Kinross Council has given its support to a national adoption campaign.

The local authority is backing Adoption Week Scotland 2018, which runs from today until November 24, and they advise anyone considering adopting to attend an open evening taking place on Thursday at the city’s Almondbank House.

A council spokesman said: “In Perth and Kinross, as with elsewhere in Scotland, there continues to be a need for adoptive parents to provide a loving, safe, secure and permanent home for children who can’t be looked after by their birth families.

“We need adopters for children from birth to around seven years old.

“These children need lots of love and care to help them overcome some of the earlier difficulties they may have experienced.

“We are also keen to hear from people who are interested in fostering infants with a view potentially to adoption at a later date. This is called concurrent care and is usually put in place where more time is needed to determine if the child’s needs can be met by their birth family.”

Caroline Shiers, convenor of Perth and Kinross Council’s lifelong learning committee, added: “Adopting a child is one of the most rewarding things someone can do – it is life changing for everyone involved.

“It doesn’t come without some challenges, but the rewards for everyone are immeasurable.”

The open evening will run from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday.
