Nail bar raids reveal four men working in the country illegally
Four Vietnamese men were found to be working illegally following raids on two Tayside nail bars.
One man was discovered on the premises at Nail Icon in South Street in Perth when immigration enforcement officers swooped on Friday.
It has now been established that three men, aged between 26 and 30, were working in the shop illegally.
A similar raid was carried out at Perfect Nails on Union Street in Dundee later the same day.
Checks found another Vietnamese man, aged 42, was working illegally there.
The Home Office said all four men entered the country unlawfully and will now have to report to immigration enforcement officers on a regular basis.
Both businesses will be fined up to £20,000 per worker unless the correct right-towork documentation can be produced.
A Home Office spokesman said: “In an intelligence-led operation, immigration enforcement officers visited Nail Icon, South Street, Perth, and Perfect Nails, Union Street, Dundee on Friday November 16. Staff checks at Nail Icon revealed three Vietnamese men, aged between 26 and 30, working illegally.
“A 42-year-old Vietnamese man was found to be working illegally at Perfect Nails.
“The businesses were served with referral notices, warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 per illegal worker found will be imposed, unless the employer can demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work in this country.”
