A man has been charged in connection with the murder of 10-year-old Tayside youngster Kane Morris.

The 37-year-old has also been charged in connection with the attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl, who was found in the same property as the boy in Coupar Angus’s Union Street in the early hours of Sunday November 11.

The man, who reportedly suffered serious injuries after falling from the second floor window of the flat, was arrested at the scene following a 999 call by a member of the public.

He is understood to have now recovered enough to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today.

Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald from Police Scotland’s major investigation team said the force’s thoughts are with the family as well as the young girl, who is still receiving treatment in hospital.

He added: “I would again like to thank local residents of Coupar Angus for their understanding whilst inquiries have been carried out.”

A man is due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today in connection with the murder of 10-year-old Kane Morris in Coupar Angus.

Police revealed the 37-year-old had been charged last night following the death of the schoolboy 10 days earlier.

He has also been charged in connection with the attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl on the same date and location.

Kane was found dead in a property on the town’s Union Street, alongside the badly injured girl, in the early hours of Sunday November 11.

A man was arrested at the scene following a 999 call by a member of the public.

Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald, from Police Scotland’s major investigation team, said: “I can now confirm that a 37-year-old man has been charged in connection with the murder of Kane and the attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl, who is still receiving treatment in hospital.

“Our thoughts are with them. I would again like to thank local residents of Coupar Angus for their understanding whilst inquiries have been carried out.”

Tributes continue to flood in for the youngsters with a mass of flowers, teddy bears and candles laid near the scene.

One said: “I will love and miss you forever. From your best friend Ronin xxx.”

A lantern holding a battery-powered candle, a teddy and a note, read: “RIP little man. Rest with the angels above. We shall all meet again.”

The Coupar Angus Primary pupil was described by one of his former teachers as “one of the keenest pupils” and “so full of life”.

Another teacher recalled “a funny, happy little boy”, adding: “He was the kind of boy that made a mark on you.”

Perth and Kinross Council has been providing support for youngsters at the school, as well as the wider community.

The girl’s mother, a nurse with NHS Tayside, has reportedly been keeping a vigil at her bedside at Ninewells Hospital.

More than £1,000 has been raised so far by the public for Kane’s family through an online crowdfund.

Friends, family and members of the wider community paid tribute to Kane on social media, with dozens changing their profile pictures to an image of two burning candles to represent the two children.
