Man who left victim unconscious after attack ordered to pay £800

-

A thug who repeatedly punched a man on the head and body, rendering him unconscious, was told to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work in the community.

Connor Coleman, 24, of Park Terrace, Pitlochry, straddled his victim and punched him in the car park of the town’s Fisher’s Hotel at around 12.45am on a January morning.

Depute Fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: “The man was left unconscious but the assault was broken up. The victim suffered pain on the left side of his head and four chipped teeth.”

Solicitor Paul Ralph, said his client landed a blow on the man’s face and realised how “unpleasant” this had been for him. However, he said Coleman was now taking the right steps in his life.

Coleman admitted the assault which took place on January 14 this year.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told him there had been no reason for the incident and ordered him to pay his victim £800 in compensation.

Meanwhile, David Ross, 35, of George Street, Coupar Angus, was sentenced to five months in jail for sending threatening text messages to his former partner.

The court heard one of the messages had told the woman her days were numbered and that he called her a “slut.”

Solicitor Billy Sommerville said the pair had been in a relationship but this had ended in April last year.

Ross admitted that on August 24 last year at his home address he sent text messages to the woman that were grossly offensive in that he repeatedly uttered threats of violence and repeatedly uttered abusive remarks to her.

Sentence was backdated to October 26.
