Trial hears golf pro was attacked by customer

-

A golf club professional’s arm was broken in an alleged violent assault in his shop during a row over sunglasses.

Club pro Christopher Nugent told Dunfermline Sheriff Court the incident took place at Dunfermline Golf Club, Crossford.

The trial heard he was also choked and threats were made to his wife and family by the accused, Lawrence Ogilvie.

Ogilvie, 69, of Glen Moriston Drive, Cairneyhill, denies assaulting Mr Nugent on August 13 last year

Mr Nugent, 43, said Ogilvie came in and asked about sunglasses he bought there previously and for which new lenses were ordered as he was not happy.

He did not like the new ones and demanded a pair from a company other than the shop’s suppliers.

Mr Nugent said Ogilvie’s demeanour was “not very pleasant”.

He said: “He asked if I was extremely stupid.”

Mr Nugent said he was sitting on a stool behind the counter when Ogilvie attacked him.

“He grabbed me by the collar at the front of my neck and shook me back and forward,” he said.

“He was extremely angry. He grabbed my left arm and I was pushed out to the shop floor. I was spun around and I crashed into one of the clothing units. “I believe that’s when I broke my arm. “I was then thrown on to the floor and Mr Ogilvie was on top of me.

“I was just trying to breathe. He probably held my neck for 30 to 40 seconds. He said if he saw me, my wife and the children in the village or at Tesco he would have us.

“He got up, gathered the papers he’d brought in and left.”

Mr Nugent’s arm was in a sling for seven weeks, the court heard.

Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi accused Mr Nugent of lying and put it to him he had been the aggressive party, which Mr Nugent denied. The trial was adjourned until November 29.
