Manager uses links with Jambos to help in cup tie

-

John McGlynn will utilise his Hearts connections to draft in Darren Murray as his temporary assistant manager for Raith Rovers’ trip to Hampden this weekend.

McGlynn’s regular right-hand man Paul Smith was back on the training pitch on Monday and Tuesday after getting married at a ceremony last Saturday.

However, he will be unavailable for the upcoming Scottish Cup tie against Queen’s Park as the newlyweds enjoy their honeymoon, which was in the diary long before he agreed to return to coaching with the Stark’s Park outfit.

McGlynn has called in a favour from Murray – who was under-20s coach during his time in charge with the Jambos and is now head of coach education at the capital club – to fill the void on match-day.

Meanwhile, McGlynn has been served with a notice of complaint by the Scottish FA after a fiery derby against East Fife.

He been charged with a breach of disciplinary rule 203, relating to “misconduct at a match” after he was sent to the stands by referee David Munro during the 2-1 defeat at Bayview on November 10.

He was given his marching orders after reacting furiously to a yellow card dished out to Ross Matthews.

“I just lost it, but I thought he (Munro) was very quick in sending me to the stand,” said McGlynn immediately after the contest.

“I’ve been in the game a long time and I’ve seen a lot worse than that,” he added.

“I’m just back in at this level so I don’t know the referees and whether he’s inexperienced or not, but I think it was a rash decision.”

A principal hearing date of December 13 at Hampden has been set for the case.

McGlynn potentially faces a two-match touchline ban if found guilty.
