A dad accused of murdering his 10-year-old son has appeared in front of a sheriff in Perth.

Andrew Morris was seen in private at the city’s police station as he was deemed unfit to appear in court.

A petition alleges the 37-year-old murdered Kane Morris, at his home in Coupar Angus on November 11.

He is also accused of the attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, leaving her severely injured and permanently impaired.

Morris had been due to appear at Perth Sheriff Court but the private hearing had to be moved to the Barrack Street police station.

A sheriff, along with depute fiscal Tina Dickie, defence solicitor Cheryl McKnight and a court clerk had to travel a mile to the police office to conduct the court proceedings.

No plea was made and Morris was remanded in custody. Further investigations will be made and a new court date has yet to be set.

Kane was discovered by police at around 2.30am in a property in Union Street. The young girl, who is still in hospital, was also inside.

Tributes poured in for the “happy wee boy” and teddies, candles and letters were left near where he was found.

One of Kane’s former teachers said he had a “wicked sense of humour”.

“He was such a funny, happy little boy. I only taught him for a short time but he just stands out so much – he was the kind of boy that made a mark on you. It is so horrible to think he’s gone.”

It is understood Andrew Morris has been in hospital since November 11.
