CCTV of van may be key to finding crash culprit
Woman died after being struck on Perth road in early hours of November 4
Police hunting a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Perth have released a CCTV image of a rented van they believe may be crucial to their inquiries.
Doreen Williams, 80, died after being struck by a vehicle on the southbound A9 Perth to Inverness road between Inveralmond and Broxden on November 4, at around 2.15am.
The Ford Transit van shown in the image is understood to be an Arnold Clark rental vehicle and was known to have travelled southbound on the road around the time of the incident.
Detective Inspector Ray Birnie said: “Significant police resources remain deployed on this investigation.
“We know that Doreen was struck by a vehicle, having been walking along the A9 road.
“We know that this vehicle did not stop. Doreen died as a result of the injuries she sustained from the impact.”
He added: “We believe the driver of the vehicle pictured in the CCTV footage can assist with our investigation and anyone who recognises it is asked to come forward.
“This vehicle is a white Ford Transit custom van. It was marked with the logos and lettering for Arnold Clark Car and Van Rental.
“It had a sliding rear door on the nearside.”
DI Birnie said police know the van travelled south on the A9 between the roundabout at Inveralmond and the roundabout at Broxden, having travelled south on the A9 from the Dunkeld direction.
“Whilst we are following other lines of inquiry in order to find this vehicle, I would urge the driver, or anyone else with information, to come forward to us now,” he added.
The southbound stretch of the route between Inveralmond and Broxden was closed for more than six hours while investigators combed the crime scene.
Anyone with information should phone police on 101, quoting reference number 672, or speak to any police officer.
Alternatively, people can anonymously contact the charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
I would urge the driver to come forward to us now. RAY BIRNIE
