Young entrepreneurs achieve success in European competition

-

Forfar Academy pupils have been recognised for their entrepreneurial flair in a competition which pitted them against the best in Europe.

The Angus youngsters took third place in the UK category of the Entrepreneurial School Awards programme which commends outstanding primary, secondary and vocational schools.

Hosted by Junior Achievement Europe and Siemens, the awards took place in Vienna as part of European Vocational Skills week.

The Angus contingent were pipped to the post by schools in London and the north west of England.

The school was one of 17 from across Europe selected at national level for its outstanding implementation of entrepreneurship education programmes.

Judges were impressed by the range of talents shown by the group in producing and marketing a range of products, including woodturned gifts, mugs and engineered items.

Forfar Academy head teacher Kassim Mohamed said: “We are delighted to have the hard work of pupils and staff recognised.

“Supporting our young people to develop creativity, innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset are key values that underpin our school vision.

“We believe that the development of these skills will support our young people to succeed in a complex and fast changing society.

“We are very grateful to the commitment of our staff in providing these kinds of opportunities for our young people.”

The Angus pupils received coaching by Young Enterprise Scotland to make the most of their talents.
