Brexit chaos boosts independence case

Sir, – Correspondent Maaike Cook suggests that all politicians should unite behind Theresa May (Courier Letters, November 20).

Mrs May and her government, or rather what is left of it, have done nothing but embarrass themselves and the country throughout these Brexit negotiations.

Maaike Cook either doesn’t care or perhaps does not fully understand the full impact that Brexit will have on our country and our economy.

I am not inclined to support a government that has done nothing to ensure continuity of supplies for vital, lifesaving medicines such as insulin, which has ignored the wishes and wills of the people of Scotland at every turn and has spat in the faces of the millions of EU migrants who contribute so much to our economy, our culture and our society.

While I do not support or condone the alternative from the ERG there is no way this Brexit deal, or any Brexit for that matter, should be allowed to go through.

Brexit will do nothing but harm this country and politicians are right to take a stand against it.

Ms Cook’s suggestion that Nicola Sturgeon is “behaving like a child” is also particularly offensive to the 62% of Scots who voted remain.

Ms Sturgeon has made it clear that if Northern Ireland can get a special deal we can too, not because of border issues but because we voted overwhelmingly to remain.

It is time for Scotland’s voice to be respected – it is time for independence. Jack O’Neil.
