Cash boost for cycling projects
Two Fife groups have ridden off with cycling funding.
They were among 28 organisations across Scotland which shared in more than £330,000 provided by the Scottish Government through a Cycle Friendly community development fund. The money, delivered through Cycling Scotland, aims to provide more opportunities to cycle.
In the kingdom, Bikeworks Fife has been given £6,540.
The group has been working with other local groups to provide bikes to disadvantaged families. Funding will help expand this scheme to buy bikes, equipment and training.
North Fife Cycling Group has been awarded £4,000. It promotes cycling to those in the area.
The money will go towards events, signs and maintenance costs to complement a wider feasibility study for the area.
Transport Secretary Michael Matheson said it was encouraging to see the range of organisations seeking to use cycling to bring communities together.
Pete Mills, the development officer at Cycling Scotland, added: “We’re supporting communities across Scotland to use cycling as a way of achieving their aims.
“From projects that support mental health to those that tackle homelessness, the funding will support the purchase of bikes, equipment and maintenance tools as well as providing training and promote projects locally.”
