Scotland strike gold at Euros

-

The three points against Gowrie opens up a wee gap at the top for them and could make the difference in a league of small margins. Things look more clear cut in Division 1 where it already looks as if Newport and Shotz will bag the two promotion spots.

In a tightly fought final, it was a reversal of fortunes from their round-robin encounter earlier in the tournament, when the Swedish world champs secured a three at the last for a narrow 9-8 victory.

Pitlochry Weightlifting Club secretary Alex Phillips won his 31st Scottish title on Saturday when he won the 89kg (55 to 59 years) class at the inaugural Scottish Masters Cup in Glasgow. Alex snatched 50kg and clean and jerked 72kg for a 122kg total. This was the first Masters competition held since the new bodyweight classes changed on November 1 but Alex achieved more than the Weightlifting Scotland standard for his class and so he was able to set five new Scottish records.
