Manager bemoans amount of mistakes

-

ALLOA 3 BRECHIN CITY 0

Brechin went out of the Scottish Cup at the first hurdle following defeat at the Indodrill Stadium.

The Championship side dominated from the start. City created no more than a couple of half-chances and can have no complaints about the outcome.

Manager Barry Smith has watched his side concede nine goals in two matches and is under no illusion about his task.

“The boys know I won’t accept the last two results. They are well aware of that but, in fairness, a few of them have held their hands up because they know that it hasn’t been good enough.

“They set a standard against Forfar but we haven’t seen that since and we have to make sure that we get back to that.

“Alloa are a very good team. They’ve got very good players and good attacking options and they punished us today, but average teams would punish the mistakes we’re making at the moment.”

City started with a 4-5-1 formation with the clear intent of frustrating their opponents and trying to hit on the break but, once the Wasps got their noses in front after Dario Zanatta had slotted home a John Robertson cross, it was clear that there was only going to be one outcome.

Greig Spence added a second for Jim Goodwin’s men quarter of an hour into the second-half.

Former City favourite Alan Trouten slotted home the third goal a couple of minutes later to complete an easy victory for the hosts, who travel to St Mirren in the next round.
