Former town hall brought back to life after flats transformation
Work on a £1.5 million transformation of a historic Kinross-shire landmark has been completed.
The former Kinross town hall has been redeveloped to create nine apartments on High Street.
The 19th Century building, which includes the town’s clock tower, former post office and library, had lain empty since 2003.
Perth and Kinross Council officials gave developer Byzantian planning permission for the project in October 2017 under delegated powers.
The 12-month refurbishment programme has seen the former library turned into a pair of two-bedroom townhouses, with four one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments in the town hall and post office sections.
Simon Leeman, development manager with Byzantian, said: “We are delighted to have brought back to life a significant historical building group that has played such an important role to Kinross.
“The nature of this development, with the location and character of the building, has helped to create a distinct form of urban town living.”
A number of local apprentices were trained on the site as part of the project.
The redevelopment also integrated the war memorials into the building.
Developers submitted alternative plans for the site after concerns were expressed about the initial proposal.
Kinross-shire Civic Trust objected to the original doubleglazed windows. These were replaced with timber-framed windows.
The clock tower was constructed in 1751.
