Two second-half goals gave Cowdenbeath three valuable points aainst Queen’s Park at Central Park last night to take their recent run to four wins in five matches

As a result the Blue Brazil edged closer to the top five, with boss Gary Bollan delighted with the result.

He said: “It was a tough game but we hit the woodwork twice in the first half then scored twice after the break and it was good all-round performance.”

Cowden came close early in the game when Kyle Miller’s pass set up David Cox but his left-foot shot was blocked by Queen’s keeper Jordan Hart.

The hosts threatened again when the ball fell to Harvey Swann 14 yards out but he blasted over.

Swann’s cross was then met by Robbie Deas, whose header cannoned back off the Spiders’ bar and Kris Renton was stopped from netting the rebound by a fine tackle from Jamie McKernon.

Dave McGurn saved from Kurtis Roberts before Gary Fraser’s corner was met by Renton whose effort came back off the post.

Cowden started the second period on the attack and grabbed the lead after 50 minutes. Sub Josh Skelly’s cross found Renton and the big striker slid the ball into the net at the far post.

The Blue Brazil threatened again when Deas set up David Marsh but with only the keeper to beat he missed his chance and Hart smothered the ball.

The visitors had a great chance in 66 minutes when Lewis Hawke beat the home offside trap but was frustrated when McGurn and Deas combined to clear the danger.

Eight minutes from time Cowden got the second goal. Hart failed to clear a long ball properly and only succeeded in finding Skelly, who coolly lobbed the ball into the empty net from 25 yards out with the keeper stranded.
