Concern grows over winger’s knee injury

SAINTS: Anxious wait for Wright’s scan results

Tommy Wright has admitted that Drey Wright’s knee injury has become a “real concern”.

The St Johnstone manager was cautiously optimistic after the Kilmarnock match that the problem which forced his winger off in the second half wouldn’t be too serious.

The last couple of days have been less encouraging, however, and he will now get a scan.

“There was a collision and a bit of a tangle,” said the Saints boss, “and his standing leg was caught. The initial thoughts were that it wouldn’t be too bad but there has been more swelling on his knee since the weekend.

“We have to rule things out so we are having to get it scanned to get a picture of what is going on. We don’t know if it will be good or bad news until we get the scan results. So right now it’s fingers crossed for Drey.

“But it is a worry, a real concern. Drey has been unbelievable for us since arriving. He’s played nearly every game for me and contributed a lot to the success we have enjoyed so far this season.”

Meanwhile, Danny Swanson’s knee was described as “a bit sore” but he should be fine for the next game against Hearts in a week.

Wright said: “We have a good week to prepare for Hearts and I have an opportunity to watch games this weekend.

“We have six games coming up in the next few weeks before the January break.”
