Williamson dealing with lows after highs

-

This time last year, Ryan Williamson was being linked with a glamour move to Derby County in the Championship.

Fast forward 12 months and the fullback is just desperate to hold down a place in a struggling Dunfermline side.

The Scotland under-21 cap has been in and out of the Pars line-up this term, dealing with niggling injuries and a loss of form.

However, the 22-year-old has returned to the team in recent weeks and is determined to work his way through a difficult spell, both personally and as a team.

He said: “Truthfully, this season has been disappointing for me, personally.

“Last season, I was playing every minute in the league and this season I’ve been in and out and had injuries.

“Performance-wise, I know, compared to last season, I’ve maybe not been as good.

“But I know I’ve just got to keep my head down and try to get a run in the team and do as well as I can.

“I look at last year, being linked with other clubs and think it’s all part of the game. You don’t know what’s going to happen.

“You go through stages where you’re not playing. I’m trying to do as well as I can and it can be difficult when it’s not happening.

“As a footballer, you’ve got to deal with the highs and lows. It happens and you’ve just got to get on with it and keep the head down.”

The same could be said for Dunfermline, who have won just once at home – scoring only two goals – since the Betfred Cup group stage and won just once in their last seven games.

However, Williamson hopes the Fifers can finally find form at East End Park against Morton this afternoon and get the fans back onside.

He added: “We know ourselves at home it’s not been anywhere near good enough. We know ourselves we’ve got to put things right at home.

“It must be very frustrating from the fans’ point of view, but we’ve just got to deal with the atmosphere and forget about it and keep together and keep working hard.

“If we do that against Morton and we go out and stick to our jobs then I’m sure we’ll be more than capable of picking up three points.”
