Smith wants players to cut out the errors

-

Brechin boss Barry Smith is looking for his players to get back to basics when they travel to face Dumbarton this afternoon.

The Angus side have lost their last two games, against Arbroath in the league and then Alloa in the Scottish Cup last week, conceding an aggregate of eight goals in the process.

Now Smith is determined that the players who convincingly won his first game in charge against Forfar will cut out the errors that are costing them dear when they kick off against Jim Duffy’s Dumbarton.

The Glebe gaffer said: “We just need to get back to basics defending properly as a team.

“In fairness, we have lost the last two games to good teams, Arbroath and Alloa.

“But we have not made it difficult enough for them.

“The boys are working hard and they showed me against Forfar that they are capable.

“But it is just about consistency and making sure we cut out the individual errors.”

Smith added: “Dumbarton have a good home record and Jim will have them well organised.

“However, we have to go there and try to win the game.

“We want to be winning matches to move up the table again.

“It is a really tight league but we just have to concentrate on ourselves and making sure we keep picking points up to give ourselves an opportunity to progress going into the new year.”

Ryan McGeever and Euan Spark are injury doubts for Brechin, while Dene Shields, Paul McLean and Callum Hendry are definitely out.
