Foundation’s cautious optimism

- American investors are believed to be keen on United.

Neilson continued: “If things change, they change. If they don’t, they don’t. We’ll wait and see.”

Meanwhile, the Dundee United Supporters’ Foundation would seek an “early meeting” with new owners should the club change hands.

A statement read: “Not a great weekend for us on the park, but we are cautiously optimistic with the recent news that American investors could take over at Dundee United as early as next week.

“Anything that could ensure the longterm future of the club is to be welcomed.

“However, the caution is there as for the first time in United’s 109-year history ownership could pass to persons with no previous association with the club.

“We would be keen to meet with the

new buyers as soon as possible to discuss how the foundation could help to support the business plans they would want to put in place.

“We would also want to raise some of the fans’ questions about the future direction under the new ownership.

“The DUSF is the largest fans’ group, and if the new owners support the foundation model there could be a significant and continuous new income stream into the club.

“An early meeting once the takeover is confirmed can only be to the advantage of all concerned with the long-term future of our football club.

“Hopefully if the rumoured deal goes through it will bring to a close the takeover uncertainty that has been going on for more than two years, and will allow the club and fans to concentrate on regaining a place in the top division.”
