Dundee teams turn things around in second games

-

Champions Inverleith took a commanding lead after the first round of matches in the national Indoor league with three victories while all the other teams faltered at some stage.

Grove Menzieshill suffered what, to them, must have been a surprise defeat in their opening match against Western Wildcats but made up for this to some extend against Dunfermline Carnegie.

Western’s early three goal lead was to ultimately prove insurmountable.

Menzieshill were able to strike back through Cameron and Jamie Golden but Western responded in kind with two more for a 5-2 interval lead.

Ben Cromar and Olly James reduced the deficit to one goal but Western again responded to restore their three-goal lead.

A late strike by Jamie Golden merely reduced the final score to 7-5 in Western’s favour.

Dundee Wanderers also suffered an opening defeat, by the odd goal in five to Dunfermline Carnegie.

Bobby Ralph equalised an early Carnegie goal to tie the score at half-time.

Ralph then gave Wanderers the lead only for Carnegie to equalise.

The result was determined in Carnegie’s favour in the last minute, but Wanderers must rue scoring chances that they scorned, especially from the penalty spot.

Both Dundee teams turned their fortunes round in their second games.

Menzieshill were too good for Carnegie, running out 6-1 winners while Wanderers defeated Western by the odd goal in seven.

Western established an early two goal lead but Wanderers found their scoring touch in the second period with two goals for Sean Dowie and one each from Euan Borland and Callum Ross.

A late strike by Western was insufficient to deny Wanderers all three points.

Grange and Clydesdale also had one win and one defeat leaving six of the eight teams on three points,
