Raith Rovers boss refuses to give up on League 1 title race

RAITH: Rovers’ gaffer expecting a better second-half to the season

- NEIL ROBERTSON nrobertson@thecourier.co.uk

Raith may have fallen a massive 13 points behind League One leaders Arbroath on Saturday but Stark’s Park boss John McGlynn is adamant he hasn’t given up on the title race just yet.

As Rovers were losing 3-2 at Montrose, the Red Lichties were winning by the same scoreline at the home of Angus neighbours Forfar.

The Gayfield side’s victory extended their unbeaten league record this season and they are odds-on favourites now to clinch automatic promotion to the Championship.

However, McGlynn has defiantly declared that no-one at Raith will be running up the white flag just yet.

The manager said: “We have to stick together and we have to keep going.

“Arbroath are setting an unbelievable pace. Yes, it is a big gap but the season will go right to the end.

“We will be in this right to the end, there is absolutely no doubt about that.

“I have not given up and there is no-one here giving up on winning the league.

“But each week that we don’t do the job perfectly you are going to come to places like these (Montrose) and every team is going to make it really, really difficult.

“What we got here I expected and anyone else who didn’t expect this is not realistic.

“It’s about hanging in there and staying all the way.”

McGlynn, who was speaking to Raith TV, added: “I am still expecting us to have a very good second half of the season and I am not fussy if we go into the middle or the end of May to get up.

“It will not bother me in the slightest. I am not booking any holiday early. We will be at this right to the death.

“I have no fear of any team at the bottom of the Championship if it has to go that way (through the play-offs).

“I am certainly not giving up on winning this league directly but there is a long, long way to go as far as getting promoted. Arbroath are the ones who are excelling to extremes really.”

We have to stick together and we have to keep going. JOHN MCGLYNN
