Suspected bomb off Fife coast remains at sea as zone lifted

-

An exclusion zone put in place after a suspected bomb was discovered off the coast of Fife has been lifted.

The crew on board the Blue Sky fishing trawler accidentally netted the device on February 2, around a mile away from the shoreline in Pittenweem.

The device, which was described as being 3.5ft long and around 1.5ft in diameter, was photographed before being placed back into the water.

A temporary 1,200 no-go zone was put in place as a precaution while attempts were made by a team of Royal Navy bomb squad divers to locate the ordnance device. Despite repeated attempts on February 3, 6 and 7, the suspected explosive was not found.
