Scone residents object to first phase of housing development.

Construction work at a former school site in Scone will begin this summer, after a council announced plans to build 65 affordable homes.

The development at the village’s Glebe Primary School site will be by Perth and Kinross Council and Glasgow-based contractor and manufacturer CCG (Scotland) Ltd.

The new development will comprise two, three and fourbedroom terraced houses and twobedroom cottage flats.

A total of 12 properties will be specially adapted for wheelchair users.

Peter Barrett, convener of housing and communities, said: “This is a significant investment in the village of Scone by the council and will go a long way to meeting the local demand for affordable housing.

“I am particularly pleased the development comprises specially adapted ground floor houses for wheelchair users.

“We have carried out extensive consultation with the community in Scone to make sure we get the development of this important site right for everyone.

“I look forward to seeing work begin this summer.”

Residents will have access to private rear gardens and parking as well as a children’s play park.

The school’s former playing fields, located to the rear of the development site and regularly used by local people, will be retained.

Calum Murray, CCG director, said: “The project will provide much-needed affordable housing for the village of Scone and thanks to CCG’s innovative, ‘offsite’, methods of construction, all of the homes will be delivered to the highest standard of quality and environmental performance.

“Also, as a direct result of the project, a series of community benefit initiatives will also be provided, including the provision of jobs, apprenticeships and training as well as providing support to community initiatives.”

Work on the Glebe school development is due to be completed late next year.
