Muirhead teams stay on course
Perthshire’s Glen Muirhead maintained his 100% record at the Scottish Curling Championships in Perth yesterday, as his sister Eve recovered from a shock defeat in the women’s competition.
The former world and European gold medallist is going for her eighth Scottish title at the Dewar’s Centre this week and won her opening round-robin fixture on Tuesday.
Dumfries skip Sophie Jackson lost her first game but stunned Muirhead yesterday when she counted four stones at two consecutive ends to clinch a famous 10-3 victory.
Eve responded with a lastend 6-5 win over Aberdeen’s Rebecca Morrison.
Jackson joined Muirhead on two wins with a remarkable 14-2 victory over Maggie Wilson in just six ends.
Glen had no such problems as he followed up Tuesday night’s 10-2 thrashing of title contender Ross Paterson with a 9-5 win over Perth’s Robin Brydone to post his fifth straight victory.
Muirhead then beat local junior Callum Kinnear 8-6 in the evening session while Brydone recorded a 7-1 victory over Cameron McNay of Greenacres.
Kinnear had stayed in the hunt for a play-off spot by pipping McNay 7-6.
Reigning champion Bruce Mouat kept his title defence on track with a 7-3 victory over triple world champion Ewan MacDonald (Inverness) and a 7-5 victory over Ross Paterson.
