On-loan goalie praised for his important saves
Dundee boss Jim McIntyre has praised keeper Seny Dieng for the way he has adapted to an unfamiliar environment after joining the club on loan from English outfit Queen’s Park Rangers, writes Neil Robertson.
The big 24-year-old goalie was thrown in at the deep end after moving north to Scotland last month with the Dark Blues firstchoice keeper Jack Hamilton recuperating from a finger operation.
However, Swiss-born Dieng has settled in quickly, with McIntyre saying: “I think Seny deserves a lot of credit for that.
“He has come into an environment that he doesn’t know and he hasn’t played in the league before.
“He is very inexperienced in terms of game time but he has come in and done exceptionally well.
“Seny has done a lot of good things and made some important saves for us at key times.
“None more so than the other night when Killie had their spell on top.
“So it is great he has hit the ground running like that.
“It was our head of recruitment Richard Mitchell, who is based in England, that spotted him and brought him to our attention.
“He worked with me for three years at Ross County and is based in the Stoke area.”
Dundee have had a hectic schedule since coming back from the winter break and McIntyre admitted it was now good not to have a midweek game ahead of Saturday’s match at Livingston.
The manager added: “When you are a player, you love games coming thick and fast but with the period that we just had there, it is great to have it back to just Saturday/Friday for us.
“It gives us a wee chance to get on the training ground again.
“A couple of the lads have picked up wee knocks so it has been a little bitty in terms of having a full group together.”
