Several people were taken to hospital after a car mounted a Dundee roundabout and hit a tree.

A black Audi crashed into the tree near the junction of Forfar Road and Emmock Road shortly after noon yesterday.

There were signs the car had mounted the kerb of the roundabout before landing on its side. It appeared to be badly damaged.

Staff from a nearby car dealership rushed to the scene to help the passengers.

Several backpacks and suitcases were piled up near the wreckage after the accident.

Two Fire and Rescue Service appliances were soon on the scene, cutting free one person who had been trapped in the car, and a towing company arrived around 2pm to take the vehicle away.

There were conflicting reports about the number of people injured in the crash but the ambulance service later confirmed that six people had been involved.

An employee from the nearby car dealership said staff called the emergency services when they saw the accident and some ran out to see if anyone was badly injured.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: “The emergency services were here quickly and then they were on hand to help.

“It looks like a bad one. Hopefully everyone in the car is OK. There’s been a lot of accidents at this roundabout before.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.10pm to attend a road traffic collision on the A90 in Dundee.

“We dispatched five ambulances, our trauma team and a manager to the scene.

“We transported five patients to Ninewells Hospital.”

A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland attended a one-car road traffic collision at the Jack Martin Way roundabout on the A90, north of Fintry, Dundee.

“Fortunately, it appears that no one has been seriously injured.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We used hydraulic cutting gear to cut one person free.

“There was six people in the car. Five people were released from the car before we arrived.

“We sent one unit from Blackness Road and one from the Kingsway East to the scene.”
