Charlie and Lola creator to visit schoolchildren in Perthshire
Laura Child, the award-winning creator of the beloved Charlie and Lola series, will meet young fans in Perthshire next week.
The author and Waterstones Children’s Laureate will be at Goodlyburn Primary and Pitlochry High as part of a whistlestop tour of Scotland.
Child, whose best known characters Charlie and Lola, went on to star in a longrunning BBC series, was made an MBE for her work and has sold more than three million books across 19 countries.
During her visit to Perthshire, Laura will give an insightful talk on how she creates her books, offering helpful tips for aspiring writers and illustrators alike.
The author will also discuss her journey as a writer and illustrator, her own inspirations from her life and where her creativity comes from.
She will also speak about her popular series Ruby Redfort and her book Hubert Horatio: How to Raise your Grown-Ups.
She said: “I am so happy to be returning to Scotland.
“Chatting to children and teachers is such a joyful experience.
“Live events are a good opportunity to get children excited about reading words and pictures, and thinking about creating their own stories and illustrations.”
Youngsters from Dunbarney, Logierait and Blair Atholl primaries, as well as the Royal School of Dunkeld, have also been invited to the sessions.
The Children’s Book Tour is supported by Scottish Friendly and organised by Scottish Book Trust, the national charity transforming lives through reading and writing.
Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tours visit both primary and secondary schools and have enthralled more than 100,000 children with visits from more than 100 individual authors since they began just over two decades ago.
Marc Lambert, chief executive of the Scottish Book Trust, said: “We’re sure children will be thrilled to learn how her stories come to life.”
