Work starts on £1m city industrial development
DUNDEE: Tenants already signed up to Saltire Business Parks, which will have 16 modern industrial units
A £1 million construction project to provide 16 units of flexible industrial space in Dundee is under way.
Saltire Business Parks has broken ground on the development which will deliver a total of 16,000 sq ft of space.
The units can be tailored in size from 1,000 to 10,000 sq ft.
The developer said the Old Craigie Road site would deliver “significant local economic growth to the area, creating employment opportunities and the appropriate facilities for small and medium sized businesses to expand”.
The estate aims to tackle the lack of quality new industrial space in Dundee.
Across Scotland less than 10% of available industrial space is new or recently refurbished, while many tenants require modern, more efficient buildings.
Alan Esson, managing director, Saltire Business Parks, revealed that terms had already been agreed on six units.
He said: “This development will provide the quality of space necessary for business to thrive, which will deliver job opportunities and wider economic growth to the Dundee area.
“We are delighted that construction has now started on a development that will have a very positive effect on the local area.
“There is a lack of industrial development across eastern Scotland and we have already received high-levels of interest from a number of local and national operators enquiring about the space options available, and terms have been agreed on six of the units.
“We want to help get businesses get up and running as easily as possible by providing quality flexible space on flexible terms.”
The development will support six fulltime construction roles and is due to be completed by the summer.
Saltire Business Park is developing similar projects throughout Scotland this year.
Its £5m Elgin project, supported by grant assistance from Highland and Islands Enterprise, is the largest industrial estate under construction in the north of Scotland.
