Boutin signs on again with Stars

-

Canadian defender Shawn Boutin has agreed to re-sign for Dundee Stars.

The 29-year-old was brought in last summer by head coach Omar Pacha and the Quebec native didn’t disappoint as he recorded his highest scoring season after putting up 27 points in 66 games.

Boutin was a key member of Stars’ defence last season and used his experience to contribute to a strong penalty killing unit.

After securing Boutin’s signature, Pacha said: “Shawn has been a guy I was considering heavily at the end of the season.

“He plays well defensively, he’s steady and similar to Mags (Matt Marquardt) he has very good leadership skills.

“I think he did a good job with the D-core last season, being one of the older guys.

“Getting a right-shot defenceman is always tough and he fits that role.

“I think he is one of those guys who understands what he is good at and he does things well.

“I expect him to be better, just like everybody and I expect him to keep improving and I want him to be a solid guy defensively.”

After agreeing to return to Tayside for another season, Boutin said: “I am really excited to be back in Dundee for the upcoming season.

“Omar and our owners are building a good hockey culture and I want to be part of it.

“I really enjoyed my time in Dundee last season.

“We have a great fan base and I love the city and Scotland, so it was an easy decision to come back.”

Boutin is the sixth re-signing for the 2019-20 campaign. He joins Drydn Dow, Jordan Cownie, Craig Garrigan and Matt Marquardt and Kris Inglis.

Meanwhile Stars fans are reminded that the early bird season ticket period ends on May 31.
