Perth bus station ticket office set to close at end of the month

-

The ticket office at Perth Bus Station will close next week, its operators have confirmed.

Currently run by CityLink, the office is currently open on weekdays.

The ticket service, which operates from 7.30am until 5pm, will cease on June 28.

CityLink say more passengers are using Broxden than the central station.

Travellers were made aware of the closure through a poster in the window.

A spokesperson for Scottish Citylink said: “It has become clear over a number of years that the vast majority of our customers now book their tickets online.

“Because of this, and because most of our services now stop at Broxden interchange rather than the bus station, fewer and fewer people have been using the ticket office at Perth Bus Station to book their journeys.

“As a result, we have taken the decision to close the bus station ticket office at the end of this month.

“Journeys can, however, still be booked at citylink.co.uk or by phone, and tickets are also still available to buy from the VisitScotland office in Perth city centre.”

The Leonard Street station has been subject to criticism in the past for its appearance and practicality.

As a result, Perth and Kinross Council have earmarked the area for a potentially improved bus station.

However, the local authority has suggested in its LDP2 plan the site could be used for housing, a hotel, leisure or offices if an alternative location can be found for the bus station.

This would be subject to a drainage impact assessment and investigation into energy provision on the site.
