Police appeal after valuable stoneware stolen from gardens

-

Police Scotland is appealing for information about three thefts of unusual but similar items across Perthshire.

Firstly, some time between 3pm on July 16 and July 24, two vintage mill stones were taken from a garden in South Crieff Road, Comrie.

The stones are described as three feet in diameter and five inches thick.

Police have said that they are heavy and, although they could be lifted by one person, they could not be carried far and would need a vehicle to take them any distance.

Officers added that these items are deceptively valuable, and the persons who took them may have had some knowledge of this.

Secondly, two medieval grey stone grain-knocking pots have been stolen from a garden in Rait some time between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on July 23.

Police said the pots are about 18in in diameter and two feet tall, and were being used as planters, with flowers and soil within them.

These items are worth well into four figures, although this would not be immediately obvious to anyone looking at them.

Police suspect that there may be some knowledge of this on the part of the thieves.

Thirdly, a stone planter has been taken from a garden in Coupar Angus Road, Blairgowrie, some time between 2.15pm and 4pm on July 26.

This is a more modern item which is about three feet high and two feet in diameter, with a design featuring three rams’ heads on it.

Police have not said the crimes are linked but are considering it is “a possibility”.

Anyone with information should call officers on 101.
