Lib Dems offer a limp opposition to Tories
Madam, – Upon the election of Jo Swinson as leader of the Liberal Democrats, Labour MP Ian Murray tweeted his congratulations describing her as a “lovely person” and urged her to join him in stopping a second independence referendum.
Notwithstanding the damage Jo Swinson and her party did propping up the Tories for five years in government, when will Ian Murray and the rest of the Labour Party realise they are unelectable, not because they are not “unionist” enough, but because they do not oppose the Tories enough?
Instead of tweeting “let’s stop austerity”, for instance, they have became fixated on independence.
Of course, it may be awkward to oppose the Tories when you have imitated them for so long.
Whilst the Scottish Government has helped mitigate the bedroom tax, we must remember it was the Labour Party who first introduced it for private rented tenancies.
Instead of abolishing the bloated and undemocratic House of Lords, Labour still sends its failed politicians there to feed at the trough. Oppose austerity? Difficult when you abstained at every vote and allowed the Tories to unleash untold misery on the most vulnerable in society over the last decade.
Scrap nuclear weapons and turn the swords into ploughshares?
Well, enough said.
It is probably best they stick to opposing independence as the rest of their track record is not one to boast about. Henry Malcolm.
