Extreme weather sees raft of events cancelled or postponed
A number of events due to take place this weekend have been cancelled following the torrential rain.
Kinross Show, which was expected to be held at Loch Leven today, was shelved due to fears over health and safety.
A spokesperson said: “It’s with a very heavy heart the committee has just decided to cancel the show, putting the health and safety of visitors at the forefront of our decision.”
Dundee’s Celebration in the Park event similarly fell victim to adverse weather conditions for the second year in a row. Organisers decided to pull the plug on tomorrow’s event due to the conditions in and around Baxter Park.
A spokesman said: “We didn’t take this decision lightly especially as this follows last year’s cancellation but the safety of our visitors, stall holders and exhibitors has to come first.”
Barry Mill music festival and family fun day was to take place from 12.308pm today but has been postponed until next month.
The event has been rescheduled for September 28.
And one of Kirriemuir’s top charity fundraisers, the 24-hour Cancer Research UK Relay for Life, was also cancelled due to safety concerns.
Rhona Guild, event secretary, said: “We are very sorry that we have had to make this decision and I would like to thank everyone for the huge amount of work that has already gone into preparing for the race.” Thankfully some events are still on. Helen Buchanan, general manager at Glamis Castle, said the dogs’ weekend and scavenger hunt planned for today and tomorrow would go ahead.
“We want to ensure that everybody in Angus has got something to do this weekend,” she said.
